How to fish the river.
The river is shallow, has a brisk current and a heavy weed growth (usually cut in July). There are chub to 5lb. barbel to 10lb. roach to 2lb. dace, perch and pike.
The accepted method is to trot the stream with maggots or casters, loose feeding and backed up by loose fed hemp. Bread flake catches roach and chub. When there is no loose weed light ledgering with worm, meat or sweet corn is effective. There is easy access to the banks by car and you can be sure of quiet fishing. The lower reaches have many bends and reed beds and can be very rewarding. Autumn and winter fishing can be very good.
Remember if you fish fine you will get smashed and swim-feeders scare more fish than they catch. Groundbait is not effective, loose feed is.
