Derby County Angling Club recently donated to The Trout in The Town initiative a day's fly fishing at Tiln Lake . If anyone would like any information about the initiative being untaken in Sheffield please contact J Blewitt on 0114 2330324 or e-mail blackgnat@blueyonder.co.uk The group arrived at 9.30 and were welcomed by Harry Kirk, who made the group very welcome. After a short introduction to the Tlln Lake , Harry then told them a little about the club and its waters. When the introductions, risk assessment and formalities were completed Peter Lax and John Blewitt went to work ably helped by Harry and two level two coaches (coarse anglers). The group was introduced to tackling up, knots and how to find out the characteristics of a fly line and fly rod. The theory of casting was then explained and it was practised (the theory did not always marry up with the practical bit) after about ½ hour, the serious business of selecting and putting a fly on the water began, starting with the overhead cast. After a lot of bird's nests, cutting of leaders and putting more flies on, they started to get the hang of it. We had lunch, roll casts were the next thing on the agenda and the group found that easier then the basic cast. In the afternoon two fish were connected with but both got escaped. We finished about 3 o'clock, even though the group didn't catch any fish on the day the group of eight children really enjoyed themselves and wish to convey their thanks to the club and its members for a most enjoyable day. The Club will obviously support such initiatives in the future especially for our up and coming anglers. |
